The roots of the Raistrick family

Postby Lady Pamela Victoria » Sat Jun 27, 2009 5:24 pm

My full name now is Lady Pamela Victoria Raistrick, feels very strange to me, but I am sure my father would approve. The Raistrick name formally Rastrick dates back to the domesday book, it seems to be an uncommon name except in Yorkshire mainly because that is where we first originated. The town of Rastrick in Yorkshire today formed through centuries.
It had been held by Earl Godwine and after the Conquest was held directly by King William. It later became part of the manor of Wakefield, held by Earl Warren from c.1100.
During the medieval period parts of the manor were sold, and a number of farms established. In the 18thC the estates were held by the gentry Lillands which is the ancient seat of the Rastricks- or Raistricks.
My niece gave me some information on my family tree which can be traced back to around 1806. I also have links with Scotland as my uncle moved to Perth and became RSM in the Black Watch WW1 remembered as a hero and mentioned in Scone museum. When I was a child I lived for a time in Scone and have very happy memories of Scotland and the beautiful places I visited there.

Thank you Lord Rhoderick a welcome always makes one feel at home, as I am very new here I have not decided yet if I will change my name or title officialy as being married my husband is not a Lord or Laird and I am not sure what position that puts me in:) but Raistrick is my family name and will certainly add some history to the family tree, and the land will always be appreciated
