Photo from the helicopter, apologies for the blurred image, and there was rain on the window looking out!

The open areas you can see are where you are free to camp if you own a 100 or 1000 square foot plot. The water opposite the land is Loch Linnhe and Lairds are free to boat, swim, fish etc on there with no charge...

You can also see the road inbetween the land and the water - thats the road you will drive in on when you visit

Definately recommend the area for a holiday - even if you stay in a hotel rather than your tent :)

From the air again

Postby LochaberHighlandEstates » Tue Sep 09, 2008 2:04 pm

Another photo from the air, snapped heading NNW over the Estate with Loch Linnhe in the background. You can see lots of different coloured trees, which are the native broadleaf plantings growing REALLY well. The band of dull green blocks of trees across the centre are the Spruce, which are NOT natives and these will be harvested in about 10 years to be replaced with a range of Scottish sourced seed broadleaves that will blend with those we have already planted. This planting season the focus will be appropriate plantings in the conservation area (the area empty of trees with the pond in, slightly right and up from the centre of the picture).
Keil is beautiful at this time of year. There are still leaves on the trees, the midges are dying off (hurrah), the woodland fungi are fruiting happily and there is a month when the weather is still warm, the days are still light and the rain is still wet (actually it's always wet). :P

That's a great shot, makes it easy to relate to the map.
Don't know if I'm sorry or not that the train track is no longer there..

Eoin.
