Lady Jill's Roots

Postby Lady Jill » Wed Feb 11, 2009 5:46 am

My father's paternal family originated in Ludinghausen, Westphalen, Prussia, in 1643 (after fleeing England during the time of King Henry VIII) and his maternal family originated in Deisslingan, Wurttenberg Germany. They setttled in Pennsylvania, USA, 1850's. The family scattered and my father was born in Canada where he met my mother, whose families migrated to Canada from the Isle of Mull, Scotland, during the Highland Clearances.

Salutations Lady Jill, I was only talking to my children the other day about the Highland Clearances. We (my generation b.1962) and theirs were never taught any Scottish History. How very remiss of the English Educational system. Does Scottish History get a mention in the American School system?

HIGHLAND CLEARANCES

Postby Lady Jill » Mon Jun 29, 2009 3:40 pm

Good day, Lord Akerman.

No mention of Highland Clearances in American schools. Also no mention made within our family.

"It is amazing that this very nearly successful attempt at genocide has not attracted more comment or criticism from society, both within and without Scotland. But then, if nobody is told about it, nobody can complain about it."
