Changing Name on passport / bank etc

Postby Lady Jade » Thu Oct 02, 2008 9:26 am

Can I ask any UK members have any of you successfully changed your title in your passport and or bank accounts successfully with just the deed,? without having to have a separate deed poll document or other ?
And has any one encountered any problems ?
My passport is up for renewal soon and would like to give it a go :D , Capital one said yes over phone(although still waiting for the new card to arrive!) Mint want documents sending- which I haven't as yet
Always up for a blether! :-)

Hmm cant find what i was looking for, but yes we have heard from many many people who changed their bank accounts. A UK passport just records your NAME not your TITLE (whether its Mrs, Dr, Lord...they dont care!)

Correct me if i'm wrong, but my passport only has my name, no field for title on it

Bank accounts should change no problem for you.

Actually be interested if anyone has a passport thats not British, do you have a field for title on yours?

As far as I know Canada, New Zealand, USA, Britain only record your name... any one with an Aussie passport care to comment?!

Hi Lady Jade

Hi Lady Jade,

I have changed all my details with my bank & many others using my deed. see threadhttp://lochaber.freeforums.org/any-fun-times-having-a-title-t62.html There is no where on the Passport for Titles, So its not worth altering your passport but all other documents you can.

Regards Lord John

PS good Idea to get a few RE-Issue copies of your deed though as you may be required to send Origional Deed as Proof of your Title change.

Dear Lady Jade

I changed my current account with just the title deed, they took a photocopy, very easy. I was nervous but just calmy said that I have come to update my account with my change of title - I also took my previous statement as proof of account and ID. Not all documentation caught up with the change as yet, but not too concerned about that!

Good luck!

There is no field for title on the Aussie passport either.

It is probably possible to include your title on a passport if you do an official name change and include the title in the name.

HI. I have had no problem with title changes with just a few words to the companies involved. I even changed the title on my UK license with not much fuss. Only problem I did have was with my local Natwest bank when I opened my account. I produced several items ie bank statements, BT billing, utility bills with my title on them as Lady. Even credit and debit cards but the Sod refused to use anything but Mrs. (Even tho I was then divorce.) I put up with this for a while but when I lost my card I raised the issue of title with the main office. After an investigation and looking at the proof of ID the bank held I received a new card with my title corrected on it and new cheque book as well as an apology from the local bank manager!!!! Matter of fact he now falls over himself being nice. So keep after whom ever it is.

How rude! Whats the point of making you produce ID if they ignore it? No wonder once the manager found out he was so apologetic I expect somebody got in trouble for that! They cant just swipe you to the side and then choose a title for you and just say "you will be Mrs" if all your ID says Lady!

Hi Lairds, Lords & Ladies,
I have just got back my Tax Assessment Notice from the Australian Taxation Office, addressed to "Lady Janet Bell". That was as simple as crossing out Mrs, writing in Lady and initialling the change on the hardcopy of the tax return that my accountant prepared. For US citzens, the ATO is our equvalent of your IRS. Good luck with anyone trying this in America, at least Australia still has some Sirs, Dames and Ladies from the pre-whitlam era when our Prime Minister decided that we should have Australian awards instead of British ones.
Kindest regards
Lady Janet Bell

uk passport concerning titles copied from wikipedia

The holder is or Holder is also known as ...
This endorsement is found in passports where the holder uses or retains another professional name or has an academic, feudal or legal title. The styling 'Dr ...', 'Professor ...' or similar is recorded here, or the alternative professional name. For example, Cliff Richard's birth name was Harry Webb. Ergo, his passport would read:
"Holder is also known as Cliff Richard."

this i have not done but am going to do so after i my passport arrives ill post on weather there is a title added

If anyone is interested I changed my bank cards recently (never got round to it before!) using the Master Title Deed we now supply.

We started including it in all packs in about March 2009. So if you bought a pack before then and didnt get one you can get it at

www.lochaberhighlandestates.com/master

I just wrote to my bank saying my title had recently changed to lady and I included the relevant documents and requested they send me new cards. There was no fee and I had the cards by the next week.
