Ballachulish Hotel (3 star)

Postby LochaberHighlandEstates » Sat Jun 28, 2008 10:17 am

The Ballachulish Hotel (3 star) is in the village of Ballachulish (pronounced balla-WHO-lish if you want to fit in with the locals and not stand out as a tourist with a funny pronounciation  )

Ballachulish is about 10 miles from the land at Keil Hill and about 15 miles from Fort William (supermarket, hospital, shops, school etc etc) so a good base if you want to see the area.

Anyone ever stayed there? I've obviously driven past many a time and it looks lovely from the outside - but any insider tips welcome!

It looks wonderful, but I think I will not be able to stay there seeing I can't eat a lot of the things they cook. Laura,I think we could probably stay at Tulloch Farms. I am trying to get a group together to go in the Off-Season when you could use the money most, with holidays and all. By the way, how far is the closest Synagogue fro Lochaber?

Dear Lady Arwen,

I've had a quick look on Google and seen this

http://www.somethingjewish.co.uk/articl ... otland.htm

So there is only one in Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen and Edinburgh. Dundee is the closest, about 2 and a half hours from Lochaber :(

Wow, that would be a real haul. I would probably need to stay there over the sabbath or pray at home. But I think I can get some shabbat hospitality from somebody there if I explain the situation. Thanks for looking that up Lady Laura.

Ballachulish Hotel

Postby Lord Dale » Fri Jul 18, 2008 9:04 am

Ballchulish (Gaelic Baile Chaolais) Hotel is very good.

I stayed there October 07 and loved it. I booked online and got quite a good deal, however I would recommend paying that little bit extra to stay in the main building. The accommodation in the newer wing is very comfortable but the main building has atmosphere +++!

Ballachilish is an old slate quarrying area and though it may sound a little boring, a visit to the old quarry (near the village proper) is worth a look.

If youre heading down the way to Oban, call into the Argyle Walk, there a variety of walks and the falls are beautiful!

The MOD is being held in Oban in 2009 also.

Kind regards,

Dale

Lord Dale, I am in the process of getting a group together from the States and get the trip free as the organizer. My Rabbi and his wife do that every year when they organize trip to Israel. Lord Ralp and I are on a really restricted income, and this is the ONLY way we could ever afford to go there, unless we win the lottery. I am not choosy when it comes to free things. And I already talked to the Lady there by email, and they would be glad to let us stay for free if we filled up their place during the slow season.
